As the co-creator of the Certified TANDEM Cat® Grooming Program, Shawn has pioneered consent-based, cooperative grooming methods that minimize stress and elevate care to a clinical standard. His approach integrates behavioral science, therapeutic touch, and trauma-responsive handling to ensure that every cat is seen, stabilized, and supported—without sedation or force. Shawn holds the Certified TANDEM Cat® Groomer (CTCG) credential and is recognized as a founding Doctor of Somatic Medicine (DSM), a discipline he helped create to define trauma-informed, body-based care for medically and behaviorally complex cats. Through his leadership at Cats in the City, Shawn and his husband, neuroscientist Dr. Daniel T.
